Join the culture revolution! As participants in the 2005 White House Conference on Aging, we have demonstrated many ways this technology can be used to address the psychosocial needs of elders and allow distant family members to participate in the Care Plan conferences.   

 

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, provides National Quality Measures.  One measure to improve quality of care is by addressing depression and anxiety.  They indicate one proper treatment may be to increase social support.  See for yourself the difference a video visit can make in an elder's outlook.   

 

Revised Activities Guidance, Tag F248, intent is to identify residents' interests and needs and then to involve residents in activities that appeal to their personal interest and needs.  It also encourages the development of new hobbies and skills, e.g. using the Internet.  Address their needs, encourage a new hobby, and appeal to their personal interest----CONNECT seniors to those they love so they can "enjoy life together."  Is there a better activity? 

 

The White House Council on Aging's Final Report to the President and Congress emphasizes the important role technology plays in the future for seniors; including, the importance of technology to keep seniors connected to loved ones.  Connect your seniors and let the smiles and laughter begin---and sometimes tears of joy!  

 

Allow distant family members to participate in the Care Plan Conferences.  Connect those family members through VIFamilies in their home or office.  (They can connect from ANY computer--nothing to download or install!)  Remember, if you have the membership it is free to those who connect with you.  If family members do not have a camera, they can still see and hear everything and then communicate by text messaging.  Or what a great "moving in incentive"---provide a camera to the distant family member so they can stay connected with their parent!
